Free Open Rehearsal for Off-Balance Dancers…

The MJC Dance Program invites you to attend an open dance rehearsal of the 2016 MJC Off~ Balance Modern Dance Performance of “Through Line”. Join us in the mainstage auditorium of the Performing & Media Arts Center on February 8th at 6pm. This is a free event open to the campus and the community. Rehearsals have been ongoing since mid-November. This year’s cast of 25 dancers have not only invested hours of hard work into each dance, but have pushed themselves to new heights. The commitment and dedication is inspiring to witness and Lori and I want to provide you with a special opportunity to get a glimpse of these wonderful dancers and creative works of art. Our guest choreographer this year is Mrs. Holly Johnston who comes to us from Long Beach California. Mrs. Johnston has choreographed a special piece that is inspired by the writings of U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera. During the rehearsal process the dancers took time to study Mr. Herrera’s poetry. Certain poems were selected and thus a movement vocabulary was created. Mrs. Johnston’s work will be presented along with works by MJC Faculty Kim T. Davis, Lori Bryhni and our MJC student choreographer Andrew Merrill. Please join us for an intimate viewing of new choreography, the artistic process, and hear form our resident designers; Anne Shanto/Costumes, and Mike Sundquist/Lighting as they share their insights into the makings of this dance production “Through Line”. Following the open rehearsal, join us in the PMAC lobby for light refreshments. The MJC Off~Balance dancers would enjoy meeting and speaking with you about their experiences in this most expressive art form…Dance. #MJCDance
