The Modesto Junior College Department of Art presents Non Objectivity by Design: Acrylic Paintings by Bruce Klein from Tuesday, October 3 through Thursday, October 26, 2017 in the MJC Art Gallery on the East Campus, 435 College Avenue, Modesto. The gallery is open 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and admission is free.
A public reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, October 12, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the MJC Art Gallery and Klein will speak at 6 p.m. The reception is also free of charge.
A “plein air” painter, Klein has been known to tie himself up in a tree where he will sit and draw for hours mesmerized by light, color and the shadows that stretch further and further across the land as day is overtaken by night. His pictures benefit from this passion that permeates the paintings’ surfaces in a thick and translucent impasto.
“I aim at strong paintings, with an honesty of effort, a pushing of limits, where something mysterious and alive enters the work,” explains Klein.
Klein has exhibited his artwork extensively and has published art reviews in numerous publications. He holds bachelor’s degrees in sociology and art and master’s degrees in philosophy and psychology.
He has taught at University of California, Santa Cruz, at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, and at Hartnell College in Salinas.
